MJ: You hit fans with something different and innovative with this new album “Medicine for the Soul”. You curated a captivating blend of R&B and Hip Hop. Talk about the album and the mindset behind creating it.

TySoul: Both Maine and myself already collaborated on multiple records before this album, and everything we made together came out great. So, we thought, why not make a full project together, and we did just that. Myself being a Chris Brown fan, I wanted to add a new school R&B flare to the album, while having Maine add his old-school influences along with his amazing lyricism.

Maine: being from New York, Hip-Hop and R&B go hand and hand. Like Nas and Lauryn, Meth and Mary, Father MC with Jodeci, and the list goes on and on. We just wanted to bring that feeling back.

MJ: You enlisted an elite selection of producers for the album, with an incredible ability to orchestrate soundscapes that heighten the raw emotion and impeccable lyricism. Talk about that, as well as how you two linked up.

TySoul: We originally linked up nearly a decade ago from a mutual contact, we never collaborated at the time, but we did a few shows together. Years later Maine called me to come into JL Studios to do a hook for Mercy Gang and after that, it was a wrap…

Maine: We worked with a handful of producers including Know- it beats and Da Leadgeon who helped us blend that Hip Hop and R&B with today’s twist. Plus, we both get busy with the pen!

MJ:  Was the goal of the album to expand your fan base by stepping out of the box? Was it to display your versatility as artists and your agility to steer in different lanes?

TySoul: I think both of us somewhat stepped out of our comfort zones for the better. I was able to experiment with a more commercial sound rather than the old-school R&B type influences that were prevalent in my first album “Two-Sided.” I feel that we both displayed our versatility but also stayed true to our artistry.

Maine: I feel as an MC I should be able to adapt to any genre while still being me.

MJ:  What single off the album do you anticipate taking off both on charts and with listeners/fans?

TySoul: I think that “Addicted” or “Don’t You” are two of our more heartfelt records. Both talk about relationship-based content but also have an upbeat flow and awesome production.

Maine: “Serenity” is going to make a statement because it deals with some crucial issues going on in the world now. “Addicted”, “Old Thing Back”, and “Move Ya Body” are extraordinarily strong records as well.

MJ: Take a minute to reflect and share anything else about “The Medicine for the Soul”

TySoul: This project personally helped me to experiment with rapping more. Maine pushed and encouraged me to spit a few bars, and I was able to rap a few good verses on this album. Even through this pandemic, we stayed motivated and in touch, which enabled us to finish this project strong and in time when we were able to return to the studio.

Maine: We want people and our fans to get that great feeling listening to our music. We’re just trying to put authentic Hip Hop and R&B back on the map.

Special thanks to Dan Rosler, Amanda Rogan, Lambo Lo, Suspect, Gus, and Paulie…#RIPHefty

Griotz Ft. Kyah Baby – “Only Fans” (Video)

Who is this new artist Griotz, from the Bronx, New York, who just shook up the music scene? He’s dropped three debut singles, two of which he was able to hold his own with former Cash Money’s own SyAriDaKid & Just Us Records Kyah Baby. His versatile flow and amazing wordplay puts him in a category of his own.

His ability to switch cadences so effortlessly, and create a multitude of styles of music makes me think we’ll be seeing this artist for years to come. Sit back in your seats, eat your popcorn, and listen to the theatrics of Sway. Every hook is like a scene, his ability to tell stories is truly amazing and his confidence in his abilities comes out evidently through the song. “You know who you’re talking to?”

Now on, “The Baobab Tree,” he’s showing us his conscious side. Giving us a message and showing how much he really cares about the progression of his people. Now, just when you think we have him in a lyrical box he hits us with a club banger called Only Fans to really show a wide range of ability in creating great music. Not to mention the music video his team shot is next level amazing.

The Only Fans video seemed like something straight from a movie. The young Director EAD, created an amazing script to match this amazing song. Griotz and Kyah Baby had so much energy and showcased some dope acting skills in bringing their parts to life. Their chemistry on camera was amazing and made the already fire song shine so much more in the visual realm. My eyes were literally glued to the screen to all the dope special effects in the video, that literally was out of this world. If you weren’t a Griotz fan before this video, you’ll definitely be one after!

Really lookout for this phenomenal new talent, a star is on the rise, and I’m telling you now, get ready to see it!

The Real Simba – How I Move (Video & Interview)

The Real Simba is climbing indie charts with his latest single and video “How I Move” available on all major platforms.

The young, Jamaican New Yorker delivers a pulsating track that defines his moves regarding money, music, and women.

As a young artist taking over the NYC scene, The Real Simba pays no mind to those clapping their mouths and hating on him. Let them keep talking and move frantically while this young King is moving with heavy pockets lined with Gucci from head to toe.

The blend of knocking bass and striking trap tones are sure to have music enthusiasts worldwide shaking and moving through the streets right into the clubs. Watch “How I Move” and check out our exclusive interview below.

MJ:  Give everyone a brief background on who Simba is.

Simba: “Simple Intellect Makes The Boy Amazing” I was born and raised in Jamaica and came here when I was about 7, so I have a big reggae influence. I landed in Mount Vernon where I fell in love with Hip Hop culture and since then I’ve been in love with music. I used to write poems then it evolved to songs, and a lot of my music is upbeat, fun, loving, inspirational, and really heartbreaking. I try to cover every aspect of me as a person and emotionally. But overall, I’m just a fun-loving kid from the ‘Ville with a dream, goal, passion, and drive.

MJ:  You’re a young artist who created his own lane and carved a name for himself in the music industry. Talk about that ladder climb and some of your strategies along the way.

Simba: It’s tough to keep it real, it’s a lot of hard work and time that goes into my craft but also a lot of risks that must be taken. I’ve lost a lot of money from people saying they can do something that they never produced. Working with different personalities and balancing a social life is a struggle. but I devote my all to music because it’s my true passion.

MJ:  What are some challenges and some perks coming up in an evolved realm of Hip Hop?

Simba: Hip Hop is more than music it’s a culture, it’s a group of people and a lifestyle. The genre is plagued by some violence, but I’ve shifted from that aspect and focused on fun up-tempo and inspirational music. Hip Hop made me who I am now and in turn, it allowed me to create and express my ideas, thoughts, and emotions.

MJ: I’ll get to what the fans want to know…”How I Move”, take us back to the thought, creation, production, to the final product of the single that is chart-topping!

Simba: Ohh man hahaha that was a good day I was actually in the club dancing and some girl came up to me with a bottle she literally said” I like how you move.” I kept saying that over and over because it was just so funny and crazy. Then later that week I heard a beat and those same words came back to me and that’s where it began and took off. I ended up writing the entire song that day. Now I’ve just been on the road working and promoting the track and video and I’ve been getting so much love.

MJ: What are some projects in the works or upcoming endeavors you can share?

Simba: I’ve got some good stuff coming for the people that support me as a person and my music. “Handle With Care “is an R&B project that I’m working on that’s going to really put people in their feelings. “Dreams of the Sky” is a mire motivation project but also very upbeat, raw, and gritty.  There are some other secret projects I’m working on but y’all just going to have to stay tuned…

FAT Fly Freddie Lee is back with a “Side of Mac & Cheese Too.” The zany single/video features Lori Rosell and is available on all major platforms.

“The theme behind the ‘Side of Mac & Cheese Too’ visual was inspired by the fact that love has no particular face. And that the roller coaster of relationships sometimes has unexpected stops and turns. Honestly, the choice of the rabbit and Teddy bear was simple. Everyone loves a cute bunny rabbit and women love teddy bears. With that being said, being ‘cute’, it’s interesting how they both did some ugly things to each other.” – FAT Fly Freddie Lee

Lee, who is famed for his uncanny, yet ingenious style and flow delivers yet another original piece. “Side of Mac & Cheese Too” depicts the continual roller coaster ride in relationships from the good times to hands-on-hips and protect your grill times. Watch the video to find out what happens when the main squeeze discovers she’s just a “side of mac & cheese too.”
